Plot

In 1995, John Connor lived in Los Angeles with foster parents. Her mother Sarah Connor has prepared her throughout her childhood for her future role as Human Resistance leader against Skynet - an artificial intelligence that will be given US nuclear missile control and start a nuclear disaster called "Judgment Day" in August. 29, 1997 - but was arrested and imprisoned in a mental hospital after trying to bomb the computer factory. Skynet sends a new Terminator, designated as T-1000, back in time to kill John. The T-1000 is a sophisticated prototype made of poly-alloy mimetic (referred to as "molten metal") that gives it the ability to take on the shape and appearance of almost everything it touches, and to turn its arms into blades and other shapes at will. T-1000 arrives under the expressway, kills a policeman and assumes his identity. Meanwhile, the future of John Connor has sent back the re-programmed Terminator T-800 (Model 101) to protect his youth.

The Terminator and T-1000 meet at John in a shopping center, and catch up later after John and Terminator escape along with a motorcycle. Fearing that the T-1000 would kill Sarah to get him, John instructed the Terminator to help free him. They meet with Sarah as she escapes from the hospital, though she initially reluctantly trusts the T-800. After the trio escaped from the T-1000 in a police car, the Terminator told John and Sarah about the history of Skynet. In addition, it will create a machine that will hunt down and kill human remains. Sarah learned that the person most directly responsible for Skynet's creation was Miles Bennett Dyson, a Cyberdyne Systems engineer working on a revolutionary new neural net processor that would be the basis for Skynet.

Sarah collects weapons from an old friend and plans to run away with John to Mexico, but after experiencing nightmares about Judgment Day, he instead decides to kill Dyson to prevent Judgment Day from happening. Finding her at her home, she injures her but finds herself unable to kill her in front of her family. John and Terminator came and told Dyson about the future consequences of his work. They learn that most of his research has been reverse engineered from a damaged CPU and the right arm of the previous Terminator. Convincing him that these items and designs must be destroyed, they break into the Cyberdyne building, take the CPU and arm, and set the explosives to destroy the Dyson lab. The police arrived and Dyson was shot dead, but he installed an improved repair switch that blew up explosives when he died. The T-1000 relentlessly pursued the surviving trio, eventually cornering them at the steel plant.

The T-1000 and T-800 are engaged in a more sophisticated physical battle and model with seriously damaging and deadly T-800s. However, unbeknownst to the T-1000, the T-800 brings itself back online using emergency power. The T-1000 almost killed John and Sarah but the T-800 took it by surprise and blew it into a liquid steel keg with a grenade launcher M79, crushing it. John threw the arm and the original Terminator CPU into the barrel as well. When Sarah relieved that the ordeal was over, the Terminator explained that to ensure that it was not used for reverse engineering, it also had to be destroyed. He asks Sarah to help bring her down into the molten steel barrel, as it can not "end". Though John begged the Terminator to reconsider, he bade farewell and embraced John with tears before being lowered into the barrel, giving his last thumb when it disappeared into the molten steel. John and Sarah walk down the highway and Sarah says in a voice above, "An unknown future is rolling in our direction, I face it for the first time with a sense of hope, because if the machine, the Terminator, can learn the human value of life,. "

Production

Development

Talk about the potential sequel to The Terminator appear shortly after its release, but some amazing issues hinder such production. There are technical limitations on computer-generated imagery, an important aspect of the film that will be important in the creation of Terminator T-1000. The 1984 James Cameron film production The Abyss provides proof of concept needed to solve technical problems satisfactorily. Perhaps more serious is the intellectual property dispute between Hemdale Film Corporation, which has a franchise and hinders efforts to produce sequels, and Carolco Pictures. Given that Hemdale was later in financial trouble, Arnold Schwarzenegger urged Mario Kassar, Carolco's chief, to bid on his rights: "I remind Mario that this is something we've been looking for for four years, and that he should go all out, whatever it takes to make this deal. "Carolco eventually paid Hemdale $ 5 million for the franchise in 1990, completing a legal gridlock.

The end of the legal dispute coincides with the wishes and availability of Cameron, Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton to participate in the sequel; Schwarzenegger, who portrayed the Terminator in the first film, commented: "I always felt we should continue with the story about The Terminator , I told Jim that right after we finished the first movie." He and Hamilton took on their respective roles from the first Terminator movie. After extensive casting searches, 13-year-old Edward Furlong was chosen from hundreds of candidates to describe John Connor; Robert Patrick was chosen to play the Terminator T-1000 because his agility will emphasize the difference between the more sophisticated T-1000 and the older T-800s than Schwarzenegger (Cameron marks both as "Porsche" and "Panzer tank of man"). Patrick has previously appeared on the action feature of Die Hard 2, but Furlong has no formal acting experience. Joe Morton was chosen to portray Miles Dyson, a Cyberdyne scientist who helped develop a new CPU for Terminator T-800.

Calling myself T2 Productions, James and co-producer Stephanie Austin and B.J. Rack hires an office in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, before starting to gather the crew for Terminator 2 . Adam Greenberg, who worked at and Ghost (1990), became director of photography, while Joseph Nemec III, who has worked with Cameron at The Abyss, i>, assigned to the production design. The team conducted a national search for a steel mill suitable for film climax, eventually selecting an inactive plant in Fontana, California, after weeks of negotiations. Finding a potential Cyberdyne building is more difficult, because the site hosts multiple stunts, shootings and explosions. An industrial park in Fremont, California, was eventually hired during the production of the film. Cameron and William Wisher completed the 140-page draft scenario on May 10, 1990, and on July 15, the first draft shoot has been distributed to cast and crew; special things from detailed technical scripts are covered in secrecy. The six-week turnover for the script and the accelerated film production schedule is to allow the July 4 release in July.

Filming

The main photography of Terminator 2 stretched 171 days between October 9, 1990, and March 28, 1991, in which the crew was filmed in the Mojave Desert before visiting 20 different locations throughout California and New Mexico. These locations run the gamut from the bustling Santa Monica Place shopping center, where both Terminators gather at John, with short shots coming from Westfield MainPlace and Los Cerritos Center, into the flood control channel at San Fernando Valley, which hosts the chase between Terminator and John; a river should be directed to allow for the filming of the other channels. Cameron and his crew also filmed Terminator 2 in The Corral Bar and Lake View Medical Center (known as Pescadero State Hospital for Criminally Insane in the film), both located on Lake View Terrace. External photographs Cyberdyne Systems Corporation was filmed on site in an office building on the corner of Gateway Boulevard and Bayside Parkway in Fremont, California. Working with up to 1,000 crew members, the production team watched many of the action and chase sequences, the most famous of which took place at Los Angeles-Long Beach Terminal Island Freeway, before Terminator 2 climax '. Ten miles (16 km) of power lines are laid to illuminate the night pursuit, which sees large-scale helicopter crashes, tanker gliding, and other complicated fixtures.

Hamilton's twin sister, Leslie Hamilton Gearren, was used in several shots that required two Sarahs, including scenes in which Sarah and John made improvements in the Terminator head (removed from theatrical release, but restored in an extended edition), and in several shots where The T-1000 mimics Sarah. Gearren plays where "Sarah" is farthest away from the camera, alternating between the original Sarah and T-1000 based on camera position. Another set of twins, Don and Dan Stanton, is used to describe a scene in which the T-1000 mimics a guard at a mental hospital.

An unprecedented budget of at least $ 94 million ($ 1991) - 3.5 times the average film cost and about 15 times the $ 6.4 million budget from The Terminator - is provided for the Terminator 2 . Most of this is for the salary of actors and film-crew. According to The Daily Sentinel and The Daily Beast Arnold Schwarzenegger was given a $ 11-12 million Gulfstream III business jet, while $ 5-6 million was allocated to James Cameron's salary. The production itself, which includes special effects and stunts, totaled $ 51 million. Although the film is generally described by the media as the most expensive film ever made at the time, if adjusted for inflation, Cleopatra (1963), would cost $ 219 million in 1995 dollars. Despite significant expenditures, the film is almost recovering its budget before it is released. Worldwide rights sell for $ 65 million, $ 10 million worth of video rights, and $ 7 million worth of television rights.

Effects

Terminator 2 uses extensively computer-generated imagery (CGI) to enable two main Terminators. The use of these technologies is the most ambitious since the 1982 and 1984 Tron and Themed Starfighter respectively, and will be an integral part of the film's critical success. CGI is required primarily for the T-1000, a "mimetic poly-alloy" (molten metal) structure, since character change shape can be transformed into almost anything it touches. Most of the key Terminator effects are provided by Industrial Light & amp; Magic (ILM) for computer graphics and Stan Winston for a practical effect. The creation of visual effects cost $ 5 million and took 35 people, including animators, computer scientists, technicians and artists, ten months to produce, for a total of 25 years of human. Despite the large amount of time spent, CGI only has a total of five minutes of running time. Listed to produce an articulated doll and prosthetic effect is Stan Winston's studio, which is also responsible for the metal frame effect of the T-800. The ILM Visual Effects Inspector, Dennis Muren, said, "We still have not lost the spirit of admiration when we see... [visual effects on T-1000] coming." Such was the role and creation of CGI that the visual effects team was awarded the 1992 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

For Sarah's nuclear nightmare scene, Robert and Dennis Skotak from 4-Ward Productions build the landscape of Los Angeles using large-scale miniature buildings and realistic roads and vehicles. The couple, after studying the actual recordings of a nuclear test, then simulated a nuclear explosion using an air mortar to bring down city sights, including a complicated building.

"Gene Siskel of the Chicago Tribune is very enthusiastic about this movie , giving it 3 1/2 stars, "thanks to some very spectacular and sometimes spectacular special effects - as well as some surprisingly solid acting, this is one great action picture, more fun than the original. Cultural reference

Robert Patrick made a cameo appearance in Wayne's World (1992) as a T-1000 character in a scene in which he pulled a Wayne car, holding a photo of John Connor and asked, "Have you seen this boy?" , which is Wayne, who may be a fan of The Terminator franchise and knows the T-1000 as a time-traveling killer, shouting frantically and away from him. Patrick also made a cameo appearance as a T-1000 in Last Action Hero (1993), when he was seen walking with Schwarzenegger as he entered the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters. In the same film, actor Sylvester Stallone is shown as a Terminator on the poster TerminatorÃ, 2 instead of Schwarzenegger. On Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993), Saddam Hussein's caricature is frozen, crushed, and reformed in a direct parody of the T-1000 from the last scene of Terminator 2 .

The opening credit shows four horses burned from the carousel as the allegory of the Four Riders of Doomsday Death.

The film is referenced several times in various animated series, such as The Simpsons , including episodes "Homer Loves Flanders" (1994), "Treehouse of Horror VI" (1995), "The Simpsons 138th Spectacular Episode" 1995), and "Day of the Jackanapes" (2001). The film is also parodied in Family Guy and American Dad! . Also in the 2014 movie The Lego Movie , Wyldstyle said to Emmett, "Come with me if you do not want to die." A trailer for WWE 2K16 revives the bar scene with Schwarzenegger interacting with various wrestlers.

Sequel and Reboot

The film was followed by 2003 Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Terminator 3 and Terminator Genisys 2015, with Schwarzenegger returning for the third and the film fifth while nothing is made with Cameron's involvement.
