Duratec is a Ford Motor Company brand name used for engines of four-cylinder, five-cylinder, and six-cylinder petrol-powered cars.
The original Duratec V6 engine was designed by Ford and Porsche. Ford first introduced this engine in 1993 at Ford Mondeo. Over time, "Duratec" became the omnibus name for Ford gasoline engines unrelated to the original V6. Ford Zeta engines, Ford Sigma engines, and Ford Cyclone engines all carry the Duratec name, but instead have nothing to do with each other or the original 1993 Duratec V6. The use of this ambiguous name is similar to the use of Ford from Zetec for the previous generation gasoline engine, the name Duratorq for diesel engine and EcoBoost for turbocharged gasoline engine.
