The Church of Jesus Christ (Zion Branch) is a denomination of the Latter-day Saint movement and is headquartered in Independence, Missouri. It was formed on April 6, 1985 by people who have been separated from the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because of certain doctrinal changes that occurred within this organization during the 1970s and 80s, culminating in the adoption of Section 156 of the RLDS Doctrine and Covenants, which allows women to be ordained priests. Unable to accept this change or other doctrinal changes, a group of elders and members led by A.J. Cato, Robert Hall, Dennis Cato, Noel Goldsmith, and Lloyd Cunningham, among others, established the Sion Branch as a separate church. This organization currently claims about 40 members in one branch.

Confidence

Sion's Branch has a "Confidence Statement" on its official website. It affirms that God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are "separate and distinct entities," and that God forever can not be changed. The "fullness of the gospel" is contained in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Other scriptures are also received from the Book of Command and part of the RLDS Doctrine and Covenants but the special revelation in them must be regarded by the church as "in harmony with the fullness of the Gospel as set forth in the Bible and the Book of Mormon" (which is not always the case). Sion's Branch uses Inspired Bible Versions, and the RLDS edition of the Book of Mormon.

Zion Branch teaches baptism by immersion, the laying on of hands for the acceptance of the Holy Ghost ("Confirmation"), the administration of the Sacrament (the church practices closed fellowship), the laying on of hands to heal the sick, and ordination (men only)) by putting hands into various offices in the priesthood of Aaron and Melchizedek.

The Zion Branch believes that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, but subjected to faults and frauds like others, and thus they did not accept everything he said or taught. Baptisms for the Dead, a temple endowment, Perpetual Marriage, polygamy, and a certain priesthood authority that are common in the Latter-day Saint movement, such as the church's chief, are not accepted. For a short time, the Sion Branch attempted to practice the United Order, but since then it has stopped.

At present, there are no apostles in the organization of the Sion Branch, although the organization has not yet officially denied any belief in it.

Revelations

In September 2007, Ron Perkins' elder from the Branch of Sion Church offered a revelation entitled "A Warning to All Saints from Recovery". Although Perkins does not claim to be a prophet, he affirms that he has received this message "by the power [of the Holy Spirit]". In this brief "warning", Latter-day Saints are generally denounced for following "sinners and ignorant of what follows their own ways and not God's ways," and "dishonorable priesthood holders." The revelation reminds its readers that God will no longer tolerate the "deliberate ignorance" of its truth. This revelation has been reproduced on the church website.
