The Independent (formerly The Evening Independent ) is an American-language daily newspaper published every weekday and Saturday in Massillon, Ohio. Owned by GateHouse Media.
This newspaper covers west of Stark County, Ohio, including Massillon, Beach City, Brewster, Canal Fulton, Jackson, Lawrence City, Navarre, Perry and Tuscarawas Township.
GateHouse obtained a paper from Copley Newspaper in April 2007.
The Independent is associated with three other Northeast Ohio newspapers, The Canton and Canton's The Times-Reporter of New Philadelphia and The Suburbanite's weekly The Repository in Southern Summit County.
