Frigidaire is a subsidiary of consumer household appliances and home appliances from parent company Europe Electrolux. Frigidaire was founded as a Guardian Frigerator Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed the first self-contained refrigerator (invented by Nathaniel B. Wales and Alfred Mellowes) in 1916. In 1918, William C. Durant, founder General Motors, invested privately in the company and in 1919, the company adopted the name of Frigidaire . This brand was well known in the field of cooling in the early to mid-1900s that many Americans call a refrigerator (any brand) Frigidaire . The name Frigidaire or Frigerator of its predecessor is probably the origin of the widely used English word refrigerator, though more likely to be an abbreviation of the refrigerator which is a word that has been known to have been used since 1611.
From 1919 to 1979, the company was owned by General Motors. During that period, it was Delco-Light's first subsidiary and later became an independent division based in Dayton, Ohio. The division will also produce compressors for GM cars equipped with air conditioning. Frigidaire was sold to the White Sewing Machine Company in 1979, which in 1986 was purchased by Electrolux, its current parent.
While the company is owned by General Motors, the company logo displays the phrase "Product General Motors", and later renamed "General Motors Home Environment Division".
The company claims the first includes:
- Self-contained electric refrigerator (September, 1918 in Detroit)
- home food freezer
- Air Conditioning
- 30 "power range
- Coordinated colors for household appliances

During the years when Frigidaire was owned by General Motors, it was very competitive in the auto-washing machine business. Frigidaire engineer Kenneth Sisson also praised the timer design used for washing and dishwashing for many years to come, designing Frigidaire washing machines with the Unimatic mechanism in the late 1930s. The production of the first Frigidaire automatic washing machine was suspended due to World War II and therefore the machine was not officially introduced until 1947. Frigidaire's automatic washing action is unique because the agitator pulsates up and down, a unique departure from traditional oscillatory types. Frigidaire washers are generally named for their mechanism, which, in true General Motors mode, has undergone frequent changes over the years. The Unimatic was in its longest production, for every single Frigidaire mechanism, from 1947 to 1958. The Pulsamatic mechanism, unique because it pulsed 630 times per minute, was introduced in 1955 for the lower-end models. This became the basis for the Multimatic, which was introduced for the 1959 model. The Multimatic lasted until 1964, when Rollermatic was brought out for the 1965 lineup. The Rollermatic is unique because instead of using oil-filled gears, metal rollers and urethane transfer forces in the mechanism. It underwent a slight revision in 1970 for a new eighteen-pound capacity of 1-18, which maintains a similar but distinct basic mechanism because it is a motor-driven belt and adds a recirculating pump. In addition to the unique action, another notable feature of this older washer is the latest round of rotation (dubbed "Rapidry"), 1140 revolutions per minute in Unimatic, 850 in Multimatic, and 1010 in high-end Rollermatic models..
When Frigidaire was acquired by White Consolidated Industries in 1979, he abandoned the design of General Motors to support Westinghouse's top-loading design, as White-Westinghouse was already among the current home brands.

Frigidaire also manufactures a wide range of refrigerators and freezers for the consumer market. Their line-up models include refrigerator refrigeration units of several different types. The options they offer include the traditional Top Freezer model, as well as the more modern Side-By-Side and French Door styles.
In 2016, Frigidaire partnered with Ryder and Embark, an autonomous trucking company, to deliver refrigerators from Texas to California. Autonomous truck level 2 is used. They have drivers behind the wheel at all times. The reason to experiment with autonomous vehicles is the shortage of drivers. By 2015, the American Trucking Association predicts that there will be a shortage of 175,000 drivers by 2024.

In addition to air conditioning in the production room, Frigidaire also provides factory air conditioning systems for General Motors cars. From the 1950s to the 1970s, these units developed a reputation for providing powerful air conditioning systems in virtually all GM & amp; truck from the largest Cadillac to the small Chevrolet Vega. G.M. also sells Frigidaire automatic air compressor to British Leland for Jaguar autos & amp; even Rolls Royce for Rolls Royce & amp; Bentley Car.
Manufacturing
The new furnace manufacturing facility opened at Frank C. Pidgeon Industrial park, southwest of Memphis. The facility is built to LEED certification standards. The workers will produce the Electrolux ICON, Electrolux and Frigidaire range of products, including drop-in/slide-in, wall ovens, special free-standing areas and cooking stoves. The $ 190 million, 750,000 square foot Memphis mill began producing furnaces and ranges in 2013. The plant's research and development center includes technologies and machinery to simulate lifetime use and lifetime stove expectations and test more than 300 products at once.
Electrolux/Frigidaire also operates a manufacturing facility for free gas and electricity ranges in Springfield, Tennessee. The Springfield facility currently employs about 2,900 people.
It has also operated large manufacturing facilities in Northern Mexico since 2005.
