Business career

Perdue started his career at Kurt Salmon Associates, an international consulting firm, where he worked for twelve years as a management consultant. His first major job was as senior vice president of Asian operations for Sara Lee Corporation, a position he took in 1992. His time at Sara Lee was followed by an assignment at Haggar Clothing, where he became senior vice president of operations in 1994.

In 1998, Perdue joined Reebok as senior vice president, who eventually rose to become president and CEO. Perdue is credited with significantly reducing corporate debt and reviving its sneaker shoe path. Perdue negotiated a contract with the National Football League that former Reebok executives referred to as "revolutionary" to reposition the company's shoe brand.

In 2002, Perdue left Reebok for Pillowtex, a North Carolina textile company. The company has recently emerged from bankruptcy with heavy debt burdens and inadequate pension obligations. Perdue could not obtain additional funding from the company's investors and then was unsuccessful in finding buyers for the company. He left the company in 2003 after nine months of work and $ 1.7 million in compensation. Pillowtex closed a few months later, causing 7,650 workers not working across the country. With more than 4,000 jobs lost across the state, the closure of Pillowtex resulted in the largest single-day job loss in North Carolina's history at the time.

After leaving Pillowtex, Perdue became CEO of Dollar General. Before joining the company, it has just overstated the profits by $ 100 million and paid $ 162 million to settle shareholder lawsuits. Perdue overhauled the company's inventory and logistics network, and updated its marketing strategy. After initially closing hundreds of stores, the company doubled its share price and opened 2,600 new stores before being sold in 2007 to private equity investors.

From 2007 to 2009, Perdue worked as a senior consultant for Indian textile and chemical conglomerate Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Ltd. In April 2011, Perdue started a global trading company based in Atlanta with Trey Childress, Heidi Green, and former governor of Georgia, Sonny Perdue.

According to Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Perdue "is known on Wall Street as a turnaround specialist who helps revive the brand and reap the rewards for investors."

2014 Senate campaign

Perdue praised his business experience, and especially his experience in the Common Dollar, in running for political office as a Republican candidate. According to Perdue: "We added about 2,200 stores, created nearly 20,000 jobs and doubled the company's value in a very short time, not because of me, but because we listened to our customers and employees." He received support from the National Independent Business Federation.

Perdue's political opponents are targeting his business career during the campaign, especially for outsourcing work offshore. Perdue said he was "proud" to find lower labor costs for some companies. Critics noted that he had contributed to the thousands of jobs lost after Pillowtex's final closing, while Perdue left the company after nine months with a purchase of nearly $ 2 million. Once elected, Perdue states that he wants to bring the perspective of "people who work" to Washington, D.C.

The race is considered competitive. Perdue won the election, beating Democratic nominee Michelle Nunn 52.89% to 45.21%.

Political position

He supports policies to achieve energy independence, as well as 'revitalize' American manufacturing and increase exports to 'create quality jobs' and 'long-term economic growth'. In addition, it supports actions to 'strictly enforce the law' to secure the border; against arms control; is a supporter of the State of Israel; against the Common Core; and opposing same-sex marriage.

He supports the repetition and replaces the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. He opposes abortion, except in the case of rape, incest or maternal life. He also supports a balanced constitutional budget amendment and comprehensive tax reform. In addition, he promises to limit himself to two terms in the Senate (12 years).

In October 2015, Perdue chose to support CISA (Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act), despite strong objections from major companies such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Twitter. This is consistent with his record of "Shared Defense," as he also supports the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act).

In a June 2016 speech to the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference, Perdue urged the audience to pray for President Obama's "short days".

Perdue's first cousin is the 31st Secretary of Agriculture.

Perdue was one of 22 senators to sign a letter to President Donald Trump urging him to withdraw from the Paris Treaty. According to the Responsive Political Center, Perdue has received over $ 180,000 from oil, gas and coal since 2012.

In 2017, Perdue is sponsoring the RAISE Act, which will reduce legal immigration by 50% and limit the acceptance of refugees to 50,000 people per year.

On January 11, 2018, Senator Perdue attended a meeting at the White House where, according to people with direct knowledge of the conversation, President Trump stated that Haiti, El Salvador and African countries were "slum states" and that the United States should not take immigrants from these countries. Senator Perdue stated that he did not remember these statements by the President. Perdue was criticized by veteran journalist Tom Brokaw who suggested that the senator should get a hearing aid at Costco. Then on Sunday, January 14, 2018, Senator Perdue told ABC "This Week" that he now remembers that President Trump did not use those words just days after he said he did not remember them.

Perdue stated in October 2017 that national debt is the greatest threat to US security. In December 2017, Perdue voted in favor of a tax plan called the Tax Cut and Employment Act which critics say would increase the $ 1 trillion national debt in ten years by cutting individual and corporate tax rates; supporters of the tax bill argue that cuts will stimulate economic growth.
